You See:
A man somewhere between forty-five and fifty. He has blandly handsome features, hair that is rapidly going a uniform shade of gunmetal gray, and eyes the color of faded dollar bills. His skin is tanned and worn from time spent in the sun. He smiles with the conviction and camaraderie of your favorite college football coach; the lines of all those smiles are worn into the skin around his mouth and eyes. Those lines-- and lines of worry and pain-- are deeper in his face than they were once upon a time.
His left ear is shredded-- the top half ripped off like a brawling tomcat's. It has healed healthily, but there's no illusion that the initial wound was painless.
He is middling tall, perhaps six foot, and gym-fit under what is generally an extremely expensive suit.
Anyone who knew him in Haurvatat before will note that he is now showing his age much more than he had before, as well as his damaged ear.
Village Peculiarity
As of Easter 2008, John wears a ball chain and hand pendant next to his skin. It is visible in silhouette when wearing a t-shirt or a-shirt, but in a button shirt it is quite well hidden.
He also wears a pair of dog tags that contain several magical shield spells, as well as his very own Patronus Charm. They read MARCONE J, and enable him to summon a spiritual protector. (His patronus manifests as firebird. Not a phoenix-- he's a muggle from Chicago. A firebird. Silver. Quite probably has a leather interior.) The charm was commissioned from Regulus Black.

Canon:
John "Gentleman Johnny" Marcone is a recurring antihero, foil, and plot device in Jim Butcher's book series The Dresden Files. He is the leader of Chicago's criminal underworld; his presence civilizes crime and cuts down on street violence, while making illegal activity flourish.
He is Not A Nice Man. He may be a good one. The jury's still out.
Also see his description on the site for the Dresden Files Roleplaying Game:
In the criminal underworld, Mafia don Gentleman Johnny Marcone walks the middle line — sometimes he'll strike a deal with the forces of darkness, and other times he'll empty an automatic rifle into it, depending on what's good for business.
I am "Gentleman" Johnny Marcone. I run this town. The cops are on my payroll; all the people that matter in City Hall, too. Supernatural or mundane, if it touches on organized crime, it's mine to say what's what. My town, my rules. Chicago's a better place because of me. Ask anyone. Under my hand, crime isn't just organized -- it's orderly, professional, and clean. I will not tolerate chaos. Look inside me if you dare. You'll see the soul of a tiger. If you cross my path, it had best be on my terms. You have already been measured. It's up to you whether it's for your value -- or for a casket. |
I do not own the character of John Marcone; Jim Butcher does. I am only using this journal to roleplay in
For the purposes of game integration, John Marcone exists in a modified bookverse world in which the TV-series is assumed to have taken place. Connie Murphy has brown hair (instead of Karrin Murphy having blond.) Dresden was apprenticed to Morningway, not Du Morne, and inherited Hrothbert the necromancer instead of Bob the air spirit. Otherwise, book canon is in place, and Marcone enters after the events of Turn Coat.
